Tancredo's Bill

Rep. Tom Tancredo of Colo., a possible '08 presidential contender, is making headlines by introducing an immigration bill denying illegal jobs to aliens, while at the same time creating a guest-worker program for employers needing temporarily legal workers.

But before the guest-worker program can begin, the government must meet several benchmarks in enforcing immigration laws, and increasing deportations; thereby reducing the number of illegals currently in the U.S.

Tancredo's bill is politically courageous because it doesn't call for amnesty of any kind. The downside, to be realistic, is that it will likely be defeated by his faint-hearted colleagues. Then again, who's to say that it will make it far enough to even be brought up for a vote.
