A bill to create a federal border militia is being sponsored by several Congressmen from border-area states. This bill is, due in part, in response to the efforts of the Minutemen. The Minutemen, by the way, recently arrived at the Texas border.

No surprise to HeavyHanded, Democrat Rep. Henry Cuellar wants them out.

In this bill, members of the federal miltia would be sworn officers, with law enforcement experience, and acting under the supervision of local authorities. According to Cuellar, each state would decide, on their own, the federal militia's duties and their deployment, and whether they should arm them.

This bill would also require the federal miltia to be residents of their jurisdictions. Cuellar sees the Minutemen as not only agitators, but outsiders. The bill provides for a sizeable paltry $100 million over several years to allow for the hiring, neutering training and the equipping of the officers.

It does not look like the politicians are taking the border issue all that seriously.
