Just what is it that makes the left soft on terror?

  • Great question and provocative answers. Bear in mind, it is hard to find rational consistency in those who are driven by emotion and who do not demand rational consistency in themselves.

My view is that the Left is focused more on culture than on individuals. They see us as individually responsible for nothing but collectively to blame for everything. They hate Hitler because Hitler was a Nazi any Nationalism is evil. They can not hate Stalin, even though Stalin is purported to have killed more Soviet dissidents than Hitler killed Jews because, to them, that would mean Communism/Socialism was evil. It is the culture, not the individual. Now, it is we, the U.S., who are evil. That being the case, of course others hate us. That is true and justified regardless of the culture of those others. Besides, we must be tolerant of others, unless, of course, we find them intolerable as we do, say, Conservative or Republicans. Disregard for consistency allows that.

The real danger here is that for this same reason the Left can not understand that its own fanaticism is leading it to the same ‘ends justify the means’ evils to which all past tyrants have succumbed. It can not happen to them because theirs is a culture of caring and tolerance. They do not understand that the Nazi’s understood themselves to be the good guys too.
