The Economy: The Good News Keeps Getting Worse

By Larry Elder

In February, our economy created 243,000 new jobs.

Yet one of our major newspapers tells us almost half of Americans consider the economy in a recession. American Research Group's latest monthly survey found 59 percent of Americans rate the economy as bad, very bad, or terrible. Why are Americans so negative? More....

  • The MSM is absolutely befuddled as to how so many people can believe the economy to be so poor but at the same time acknowledge that in their own particular case things are rather good.

This is reminiscent of Peter Jennings, (Sincerely; God rest his soul), bass ackward bewilderment over how on earth the prison population should be increasing even while the crime rate was going down.

Could it be that the crime rate is going down because the prison population is increasing and because the increased risk of such imprisonment is having a deterrent effect?

Similarly, the people just may believe the economy is in the tank because the MSM constantly tells them so. For many people, the MSM is still their only source of news on such matters so they believe it. On the other hand, they know what their own economic situation is from direct experience and know it to be good. Hence the contradiction.

    Occams razor strikes again.
