The Palestinian Agenda: Suicide

By Michael Medved
Beyond the News

It's possible to understand the agenda of Islamic terrorists in Iraq, but how do you explain the aims of Palestinian terrorists in Gaza? In Iraq, so-called insurgents want to influence U.S. public opinion--hoping their continued killing will lead to American withdrawal, providing a chance to seize power against the demoralized forces of Iraqi democracy.

In Gaza, however, the Israelis already left the territory, but random rocket attacks--totaling several hundred every month--have only intensified. The Palestinians know these attacks won't drive six million Israeli Jews from their cherished homeland: in facing more than 80 years of ceaseless Arab terrorism, the Jewish population of Israel has multiplied twenty fold, rather than declining. By investing in these daily attacks, rather than building farms or factories, Hamas and their allies show that they crave suicide more than statehood.
