It’s Always Israel’s Fault
By Alan Caruba

The Israelis have tried every thing they could to mollify the Palestinians and the neighboring Arab states. They have done this despite having fought several wars that gained it the territories the Arabs want returned, along with all of the rest of Israel. There is a lesson here somewhere for the Israelis and for the rest of the world. It has something to do with punishing one’s enemies until they give up…

  • Incredibly, I have heard more than one ‘pundit’ complain that the problem is that the Israeli response is always disproportionately severe. As in: ‘Every time I hit him he hits me back harder. That is not fair”. One representative of some middle eastern media outfit even complained that when Israel strikes back at its enemy’s infrastructure, civilians may get killed, completely ignoring that Israel is responding to its enemy’s deliberate attempts to kill Israel’s civilians. And no follow up by the commentators questioning such illogic.

  • The quote from Teddy Roosevelt that I posted comes to mind, "The unforgivable crime is soft hitting. Do not hit at all if it can be avoided; but never hit softly."

The commentators only ask followup questions to those on the right that they disagree with. They don't want to put those on the left in a position in which they have to try to intelligently defend their positions.
