CEASEFIRES - WHAT GOOD ARE THEY?

HeavyHanded professes that the Arabic translation of ceasefire is 're-arm'.

One of my favorite most recent quotes is from Thomas Sowell in an article he wrote about 3 weeks ago called Peace vs. Pacifists. He stated, "If cease-fires actually promoted peace, the Middle East would be the most peaceful region on the face of the earth."

I noted his article in a previous post with the link for the article. If you did not read it, you should. Sowell has written another relevant piece entitled Will Cease-fires Never Cease? In it he writes:
How many cease-fires have there been in the Middle East -- or is the number too large to remember? Over the past half century, there must have been more cease-fires in the Middle East than in the rest of the world combined.

What will this latest cease-fire do? It will give Hezbollah a breather from Israeli retaliation and allow them time to get new shipments of military equipment from Iran, rebuild their military infrastructure and prepare for the next round of attacks on Israel.
Mr. Sowell, a great writer, seems to ascribe the same definition/translation of the word cease-fire as I do. I may not be most definitely am not a great thinker or a great writer like Dr. Sowell, but at least on this matter, I am in good company.
