United Nations breaks its promise
"Once again, the United Nations has failed to keep a promise, at the cost of many lives. Making promises that cannot be kept is hard on the credibility of an organization. Doing so knowingly and repeatedly destroys it.
In 2000, Israel withdrew from Lebanon, relying on the U.N.'s promise to keep the border area from being remilitarized. If the U.N. did not have the power or intent to carry out this promise, it should never have made it.
Since that time, the U.N. not only has failed to keep its promise, its forces stood by and watched as the area was reinforced with impenetrable bunkers, stockpiled with weapons and civilian residences were used to squirrel away weapons launchers. All that happened while U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan silently stood watching; it has been on his watch that Hezbollah initiated this most recent round of civilian bloodshed in the Middle East."
