Want Job Security? Go Federal.

"Data from the Cato Institute and the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis proves that you can’t beat having a government job. On average, federal civilian workers earn twice as much as private-sector workers in wages, compensation and benefits. In 2005, federal wages increased 5.8 percent while private-sector wages went up only 3.3 percent. While bureaucrats and big-government Democrats will complain about private-sector white-collar workers who make hundreds of thousands, even millions, of dollars a year, those jobs are subject to market conditions. Federal workers live in a bubble that doesn’t pop during a recession and doesn’t experience downturns in employment or salaries. Thanks to powerful union rules, it is virtually impossible to fire a federal worker, no matter how incompetent or unworthy.

Alas, even with Republicans in Congress and the White House who claimed to want smaller government, the abuse of the federal employment system has continued unabated."
