Woman arrested for carrying a machete outside the White House
"A woman was arrested for carrying a machete outside the White House, the US Secret Service announced, giving few details about the incident.
Kim Bruce, spokeswoman for the Secret Service -- the office in charge of presidential security -- said that Ashwak Saleh, a 32-year-old woman, was arrested 'for possession of a prohibited weapon.'
Bruce described the weapon as a 13-inch (33 centimeter) machete, but did not say whether Saleh was behaving in a threatening manner, or where Saleh was from.
The incident took place at around 2:20 pm (1820 GMT) on the sidewalk along the north fence line, just outside the White House area.
Bruce did not say if the arrest was linked to President George W. Bush's return to the White House from Crawford, Texas just minutes earlier.
Saleh was taken to local Washington DC police station for booking, Bruce added."
