An Attack on Civilization

"For several years there has been talk about a 'clash of civilizations.' Some people have said that the 9/11 terrorist attacks on America were Islam against the West and that the world was now in the middle of a war of civilizations.
President Bush offered a much more important insight. The terrorism the world has experienced in the past five years, he said, is a war upon civilization itself. Nations of widely different political viewpoints like Spain and India, England and Indonesia, Canada and the U.S., have all suffered from terrorist attacks and plots from the same fanatic adversaries.
Islamic fascists have a perverted worldview that prefers death to life, submission to freedom, ignorance to learning. They are determined to make war on anyone who opposes them. And that's a war on global civilization itself."
