Who's Serious About the War?

Hugh Hewitt

With the fifth anniversary of 9/11 behind us, Congress now faces the very real duty of protecting the country via the legislation that the president has urgently requested concerning authorization for military tribunals to try terrorists and the NSA program to conduct warrantless surveillance of al Qaeda contacting its operatives in the U.S.

Democrats have announced their broad opposition to the president's legislation. This incredible display of renewed obstructionism shines a bright light on the unseriousness of the Democrats. Not only does the leadership of that party want to cut and run from Iraq, they are also opposed to the absolutely crucial legislative steps that must be taken to keep this country secure.

As November approaches, the country again faces the same choice as in 2002 and 2004: Are we serious about the nation's security and victory in the war? If the answer is yes, the GOP will register unexpected--in the mainstream media at least--wins at the ballot box."
