Britain: Terror attack likely over holidays
"Terrorists probably will attempt to attack in Britain over the holiday period, Home Secretary John Reid warned Sunday. He gave no details but said authorities know of about 30 major conspiracies.
'The threat in this country is very high indeed,' Reid said. He said an attack is not inevitable, but 'our security services have to be successful on every occasion to prevent that happening.' In August, Britain's threat status was raised to severe, the second-highest level, when an alleged plot to down trans-Atlantic jetliners with liquid explosives was uncovered. In November, Eliza Manningham-Buller, head of Britain's domestic spy service MI5, said her agency had foiled five major plots since transit bombings in London in July 2005." More.....
