"Sen. Barbara Boxer is using Al Gore’s appearance Wednesday before her Environment and Public Works Committee to help raise money for her 2010 election campaign.
In an e-mail, the California Democrat asked supporters to sign an online thank-you card to Gore 'for his many years of leadership and hard work,” which she said she would give to Gore when he testifies on global warming.
Beside the link for signing the thank-you card is a 'contribute today” link enabling users to make online donations to Boxer’s campaign.
The e-mail is 'inappropriate, coming close to an ethical line” because it suggests a link between a congressional hearing, legislative action and campaign donations, campaign finance watchdog Melanie Sloan, executive director of the Center for Ethics and Responsibility in Washington, told California’s Contra Costa Times."
