The Fort Dix Six
The arrests of the Fort Dix Six should do more than alarm Americans, it ought to introduce a new resolve in the fight against Islamic terrorism which has been lost and a new realism where politics has driven out common sense. These six men had been plotting since early last year to, in their own words, "kill as many soldiers as possible."
Not only are we reminded of John Ashcroft's requests to be vigilant as we go about our lives--it was a store clerk who spotted the DVDs that brought these plotters to the attention of the FBI--we also need to realize that the Bush administration is simply not manipulating the threat of terror for political purposes. If they had been doing so, surely the arrests would have been last October's surprise.
I don't expect the president's political opponents to note such things, but hopefully less partisan Americans will understand again that the war on terror isn't a political football but a deadly serious race against jihadists who will kill every American they can--regardless of political affiliation.
