Patriotic Dissent is a luxury of those protected by better men than they.

  • Great Quote!

  • What the ? For that crap, I would my parents have stayed in Cuba... where Fidel reminded the citizenry daily about the great accomplishments of the revolution, and how grateful to the revolution every Cuban should be.

Do you understand what brought my parents to this country, why my grandmother was so proud of her US citizenship?.. I'll give you a hint: it wasn't the promise to be "protected" and "pampered".... Fidel had already promised that.

Our rights were not considered "luxuries" by the founders of this nation (the right to peacefully assemble: 1st amendment to the Constitution). They rightly understood our rights necessary to avoid repressive regimes/governments (of the kind that think they are better than the rest of the citizenry).

There is nothing wrong with being grateful to others for sacrifices they have made for you.... there are even great men and women who should be admired... but then, I'd be wary of anyone who proclaims he/she has anything on you, and declares your right to protest or question the state of things a "luxury".

    BTW, who wrote that drivel?

  • Dear anonymous...

Settle down! If we disagree, we can do so without the hostility.

With that said, I don't think we disagree, or perhaps not that much. I think we have a different interpretation of the quote.

I don't know where the quote came from. As far as I can tell, it is an anonymous quote.

First however, Fidel is engaging in propoganda.

Secondly, I do understand what brought your parents here, and greatly appreciate the fact that your grandmother is a US citizen, at least as much as I possibly can, without having to experience the reality of what they went through personally.

Thirdly, one of the foremost responsibilities of any government IS TO protect their citizens. IT IS in our constitution. Just because Fidel propogandizes and says he is protecting his people, does not make it so.

"Protection" yes, is a proper function of government, "pampering" absolutely NOT.

You seem to be hung up on the word "luxury." And that I can understand. Of course our founders looked at it as a right and not a luxury.

But good God man, saying it is a right does not make it so, unless we stay vigilant and protect those rights.

And that is we have to have those who will put on a uniform and protect us from those outside sources who want to take it away.
