THE BIND OF LIBERAL VICTIMHOOD
Obama is no longer a great candidate who happens to be black. He is now the black candidate. Hillary is not a great candidate who happens to be a woman, she is the female candidate. Without his ethnicity or her gender, they are not, either of them, very impressive as leaders, in their background, or in their potential for guiding our country toward anything good.
They are now victims of their own hubris, their own self-righteous posturing of support for oppressed minority groups, and their own attachment to a trauma dynamic of victim-hood in which there are only three possible roles: 1) victim, 2) perpetrator, and 3) savior.
The Democrats have fancied themselves as savior to oppressed minorities, who are seen as the victims of "the American system," "corporate America," "the rich," mean selfish Republicans, racist white males, it doesn't matter as long as it's vague. The emotional pull is more compelling if it is kept nebulous.
Encouraging victim-hood has been a great game for the Democrats for a long time. But we may be seeing the Democrats' victim-hood game coming to an end.'
