The Don't Drill Democrats
By Hugh Hewitt

Congressional Democrats have defeated an effort to open the outer continental shelf to oil exploration. This proposal from Republicans would have limited new exploration to areas at least 50 miles from the American mainland. Still the "Don't Drill Democrats" said no.

On the Monday following, John McCain called for the repeal of the federal ban and to allow the states to decide whether they would permit offshore drilling. Good for Senator McCain.

This is a huge difference between him and Barack Obama, just as it is between Congressional Democrats and Congressional Republicans. McCain and his GOP allies know the only answer to soaring oil and gas prices is more exploration of domestic reserves. Democrats know that too, but they'd rather keep the ban on exploration and have you pay at the pump. A lot.
