Army officials refute claim of Barack Obama snub in Afghanistan

The email from Capt. Jeffrey S. Porter, the officer in Afghanistan (which I posted earlier) that criticized Saint Obama is (predictably) stirring up a hornets nest on the internet. A commenter chastised me for believing everything that shows up in my email box; and further, it was a farce:
"You need to investigate the truth behind what you post. Do you believe everything you see in your email? This is a hoax email."
I did not receive it as an email. I came across the correspondence from a respected blog and my post contained the site name and the link back to the website. I love it when someone "tells me" what "I have to do" on my own site. Further, he/she wants me to "investigate" but yet he/she cannot pick up on the simple fact that it was not an "email" that I had received, but a posting from another website.

Of course that fact does not make it automatically true, believe what you want, and do your own snooping around and draw your own conclusions. If you are a big Obama supporter, good for you, I could not care less. If it were true, you would not believe it anyway.

In a piece written by James Gordon Meek, NY DAILY NEWS, WASHINGTON BUREAU:
WASHINGTON - The latest chain e-mail smear against Barack Obama: He "blew off" troops at an Afghan base to shoot hoops for a publicity photo.

The letter was apparently written by a Utah Army National Guard intelligence officer in a linguist unit at Bagram Airfield who claimed the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee was rude to G.I.s.

Mr. Meek went on to say the Army brass were not happy with the email and debunked the allegations of Obama dissing the troops. They went on to say the comments were inappropriate
(military personnel are supposed to be apolitical) and not factually correct.

Are we to believe that the brass are getting worked up in a lather and debunking the "facts" in the email that was a hoax and from someone whom does not exist? That is a little hard to swallow.

Further, Mr. Meek said in his news column that emails to the officer and phone calls to his wife were not returned. Emails and phone calls to people who do not exist? Not likely.

Could it be an exaggeration of the real facts, or perhaps just his perception of the situation, but not truly reflective of what the real situation was? Perhaps.

Or, is the email fairly factual and realistically depicts what the real situation was? And now, the military brass is putting their "political spin" on it in an attempt to minimize the damage from one of their own - someone who, in their view, stepped over the line and expressed his political views.

From what I can garner to date, this email was sent to his wife and she got it out there on the internet and it has spread like wildfire as things often do on the net. Perhaps he had no desire or intent on getting it out on the internet as this may cause him a heap of trouble.

Barack does have a "military problem". He, himself, has acknowledged this. But let's face it, military votes are not enough to have much of an impact on elections.

By the way, forgetting about this email from Afghanistan kerfuffle, what's up with Barack stiffing the soldiers in Germany? He was to go to a couple of bases and also visit the wounded at the military hospital in Germany - but canceled. What's up with that? He won't win the hearts and minds of our military personnel with tactics such as this.

  • So. It wasn't a hoax. In fact, it was one of the scenarios I posed. It was correspondence to his wife that she let out on the internet.

His cover was blown which is not good for him because they are not supposed to get into politics.

He got extreme heat from Army brass, yes he is in the Army, and had to retract what he said.

This is not proof that the email was a hoax or that this Army officer does not exist.

What it proves is that this is one man who happens to be an officer who is obviously not an Obama supporter who wrote something unflattering about a political candidate and had to retract it.
