You can tell that Americans are finally paying attention to our neighbors south of the border when American college presidents start giving out travel advice to their students. In a sign that things are really getting out of hand, several college presidents have advised their students not to vacation in Mexico during upcoming spring break.
The reason is obvious. Drug-related gang warfare and killings has exploded not just in the towns that straddle the US-Mexico border, but even in vacation spots like Cancun. The police chief of Ciudad Juarez, just across from El Paso, resigned after drug thugs threatened to kill one of his officers every 48 hours unless he quit.
With it that bad in Mexico, it makes you wonder how long it will be until we see similar violence north of the border.
