Obama Moves Against Charitable Deduction

By Hugh Hewitt

"President Obama's budget is so bad, so irresponsible and so staggeringly expensive that it is difficult to know where to begin. So I will begin by speaking on behalf of the least and the lost who will suffer as support networks of churches and not-for-profits are devastated by the president's decision to attack the charitable deduction.

This is nothing short of a naked attempt to shrink the private, not-for-profit sector so that government is obliged to grow to fill its place. It is an all out assault on religion of all sorts, as ministries, churches and parachurch organizations will be crippled by this change in the tax code if it proceeds.

This is one of the most radical, and cunning, attempts to upend a basic feature of the American way of life, and it must be defeated.

Call your Congressman and Senator and demand that they leave the charitable deduction in intact. And call the White House too.

President Obama must abandon this effort to defund churches and charities."
