Russian intelligence monitors Lithuania-NATO exercise
The exercise, the first since Lithuania’s acceptance to the North Atlantic Treaty, included units from Georgia and Azerbaijan. Among others the training dealt with bringing together tactics of former Soviet units with those of NATO.
Russia warned her former Baltic republics of turning their countries into NATO bases. A source in Lithuania said Russian spy planes were seen flying close to the Lithuania-Russian border. A Lithuanian official said police noticed an unusual number of Russian tourists visiting the country during the exercise."
