The only reason for "giving up Gaza" was so they could bomb the crap out of it any time they wanted without risking Israeli "collateral damage".

Hmmmmmmmm.... Maybe. But why are the Palestinians/Hamas/PLA/or any number of similar (you pick 'em) groups shooting missiles into Israel from Gaza?
Israel hasn't been "bombing the crap" out of Gaza.
