This post and the ones both before and after this post are spot on!
Thomas Sowell's latest columns address this and advocate a limit of a single term at a salary competitive with the market for people of the experience and caliber required. We could pay congressmen during their single term more than they rake in via corruption and still save money on the otherwise attendant pork and earmarks that generate the corruption.
Also, lobbyists are not the problem!!! They are the means by which we the people are able to petition our government for redress of our grievances.. Let’s make that clear before the corruptible and greedy congressmen, who are the problem, falsely ‘correct’ it via legislation that further reduces our rights as they did with ‘Campaign Finance Reform’.

By the way, "spot on"? You're sounding a little British today.
