Iran warns 6 nations against turning to UN
INTERNATIONAL HERALD TRIBUNE
Iran said Thursday that it would respond Aug. 22 to the international offer of incentives in exchange for Tehran's halting its uranium- enrichment program. But the government also warned that it would reconsider if the United Nations Security Council took up the issue with the risk of sanctions.
The policy announcement was made by a government panel on security affairs headed by the country's chief nuclear negotiator, Ali Larijani.
The six nations that made the offer, the five permanent members of the Security Council - the United States, France, Britain, China and Russia - and Germany decided a week ago to refer the matter to the Security Council because Iran had failed to respond promptly to the proposal.
