Explaining Five Years Without Attacks

In the five years since 9/11, Islamic terrorists have launched deadly assaults on more than 20 nations around the world but they haven't staged a major strike on the U.S. One reason for our good fortune involves greatly enhanced security and counter-terror initiatives that have disrupted terror networks, foiling plots against us.

The only other possible explanation reflects a conscious decision to hold back in striking America--not because they hate us less than other nations where they've killed hundreds, but because they fear us more. After the decisive, resolute reaction of 9/11, it's obvious that America will respond with more ferocious, overwhelming force than other terrorist targets.

Whether terrorists haven't struck because they're stopped from mounting major attacks, or else they've held back out of fear of America's reaction, it's obvious that the policies of the Bush administration deserve some credit for the five unexpected years of safety with which we've been blessed." -- By Michael Medved

In either case, it is a tribute to the aggressive actions we have taken to protect the American people. You cannot but wonder what our situation will be in 2 more years under a new President and administration. Will we return to a passive, stick-your-head-in-the-sand, can't we just get along, pre 9/11 attitude? Or, will we continue to be proactive against the Islamist extremists who want to kill us or convert us?
