Questioning Patriotism

By Todd Keister

In their blind rage and quest for power, the Democrats have aligned their interests with those of our enemies. To justify their relentless attacks upon the administration and America’s national security policy, the Democrats have redefined patriotism.

What patriotism now means is subversion. The apogee of patriotism is achieved, we are told, by undermining our soldiers fighting terrorists abroad, and by making outrageous and baseless charges against the president.

We are bombarded daily with livid Democrats shrieking, “this is America!” and lecturing us that questioning government policy is patriotic.

What is left unsaid is that responsible debate and dissent involve more than personal attacks and criticism of policy. To claim that one’s dissent is patriotic, it is incumbent upon him to propose an alternative course of action. To date, no Democrat has proposed any alternative to the administration’s foreign or domestic agenda or to its strategy in Iraq. Time Magazine recently revealed that it is the official policy of the Democratic leadership not to put forward any alternative ideas whatsoever. The House Minority Leader, Nancy Pelosi, prohibited Democrats from working on bills in conjunction with Republican lawmakers. She also forbade any discussion of alternatives to President Bush’s Social Security reform and foreign policy initiatives." Full commentary.
