United Nations General Assembly focuses on poverty alleviation
Tempo - Manila,Philippines
The United Nations (UN) General Assembly opened its 61st Session on September 12, 2006. The General Assembly is the main deliberative body of the UN. ...
And just how does one 'alleviate' it? We, here in the United States, have been 'fighting the war on poverty' for decades at great financial cost (taxpayers money) and still have not 'won the war.' Or have we? I guess that gets back to my original question. What is poverty? Compared to what?
The poor in the U.S. are far better off than the poor in other countries. Does that mean we have won the war here in the U.S.? If the answer is "no", then clearly worldwide poverty cannot be alleviated if the richest country has spent trillions on combating poverty at home for decades, and has been unsuccessful. Who is going to do the 'alleviating'? France? China?
The struggle for a global socialistic utopia continues.
