Senators to challenge Bush plan for terror trials
Republicans Divided on Terrorist Interrogations
WASHINGTON — "A trio of influential Republican senators today plans to challenge President Bush's proposal to put terror suspects on trial, a day after a House panel approved the administrative initiative.
Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman John Warner, R-Va., said Wednesday his panel will consider legislation to provide more legal rights for detainees than the White House proposal. He and his allies contend that denying those rights will put U.S. troops at risk if they are captured overseas and diminish the nation's moral authority." More.
