The 'New' Baghdad

Mohammed Fadhil of IraqTheModel has a positive, but guarded, assessment of the new Baghdad security operation and says, “The Surge is showing signs of success. The progress made so far invites hope and optimism, but it’s still too early to celebrate.”

The lull is welcomed but could be just a short term drop in violence as the terrorists, perhaps lay low, and observe the new procedures so they can plan anew to counter these fresh security tactics.

Fadhil writes an article at Pajamas Media and gives, I think, a realistic appraisal of the current situation.

Glenn Reynolds
tells us this sounds promising, but to stay tuned, and correctly points out: "Unfortunately, too many members of the U.S. political classes have now put themselves in a situation where success is politically more dangerous than failure."
