Egypt-North Korean nuclear ties

"In an apparent defiance of U.S. global policies, especially U.S. efforts to curtail North Korea’s nuclear program, Egypt’s Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul-Gheit received in Cairo North Korea’s Deputy Foreign Minister Choe Su Wong.

In a joint statement titled Bilateral North Korean-Egyptian Relations included only hints of the true nature on the scientific and military technology connections between the two nations.

The North Korean official and his entourage described the technical-scientific relations as highly important. Information leaked to western diplomats in Cairo said the main topics were cooperation in the development of medium and long-range rockets, and cooperation in the development of nuclear and other WMD weapons.

Even the leading al-Ahram daily, usually regarded as the government's bullhorn, stated Minister Abul-Gheit saying, "North Korea was keen on briefing Egypt on the developments of (the) North Korean nuclear program."

Israeli and Turkish nuclear sources warned the U.S. on more than one occasion that there is a vast difference between the Mubarak administration’s pro-west rhetoric and his pro-North Korea reality."
