The non-war against terrorism

Few governments are actually fighting.

"The dubious excuse for not violating the sovereignty of terror host countries has become part of the much larger problem where terrorists are allowed to find safe haven countries whether openly approved or not by the host government. The threat of mega-terror attacks on major western urban centers is more than imminent. However, governments such as that of the U.S., the U.K., France and others, continue to hobble around in a fog of intelligence blindness, paralyzed by refined but totally useless diplomatic maneuvers, careful not to offend leaders of countries where terrorist elements are spreading like a bushfire.

The November 2002 CIA missile launched from a drone in Yemen killed six alleged al-Qaida members in one of the very few cases where a pro-active operation to kill terrorists was undertaken by the U.S. The psychological effect of such an attack is at least as valuable as the kill itself. When the enemy cannot tell when and where you are coming from it will expect you in fear anytime and everywhere.

Although U.S. leaders and lawmakers are aware of the imminent terrorist danger, especially in lieu of a mega-terror possibility, it is obvious very little is done to prepare and educate the public. The first and most significant component missing is the political will to tell the people they are at war.

Too many politicians running for office achieve their ambition through votes coming from so-called “ethnic communities.” Too many of them lack the will, and possibly the courage, to put harsh realities on the table for everyone to see and understand. A nation cannot be expected to successfully cope with the realities of a cruel war when its leaders demand so little of themselves and do even less to confront the enemy with resolve and determination. • Ah, yes. The blame game and victimhood. What noble traits to possess. This gives one the right then to sit around and do nothing. Someone else can fix my "problem," since "they" caused it.

Thanks for the kind words. Let's hope the conversations stay civil and it can stay open. When a blog gets hit by too many commenters wearing aluminum foil hats, well then.......
