Why McCain Lost

By Michael Reagan :
Barack Obama is president-elect of the United States because the Republican Party and John McCain handed him the presidential election on a silver platter.

The Republican Party and the Bush White House walked away from Republican ideals and they walked away from Republican values.

Conservative Power Brokers Strategize

Amanda Carpenter has written a short little blurb that a small faction of conservative Republican leaders got together to brainstorm and come up with a game plan on how to recharge the Republican brand.

Brent Bozell, president of the Media Research Center was instrumental in this conference of conservative leaders and said that "Barack Obama did everything in his power to run on anything but the liberal agenda of the Democratic Party.”

So in Bozell's eyes, this last presidential election was really a choice between a moderate and a far left candidate, and the moderate lost. Consequently, his take is, the moderate wing of the Republican Party is dead, it is finished.”

An Unfair Assault on Faith

By Michael Medved

The new movie "Religulous" features comedian Bill Maher arguing with believers to make them look stupid. The movie provides uneasy laughs--showing a Democratic, Bible-exploiting senator expressing gratitude that there's no IQ requirement for Congress. The cheap shots at organized faith, however, involve two areas of fundamental unfairness:

First, Maher selects easy, vulnerable targets, never confronting formidable religious intellects, like theologian Al Mohler.

Second, the movie concentrates on Christianity while giving a free pass to radical Islam, arguing that all religions equally threaten the destruction of civilization.

The concluding montage cuts together images of burning buildings on 9/11 with footage of Pope Benedict and devout Jews in prayer, thereby abandoning all claims of decency or seriousness.

Conservatives may not realize just how difficult it might be to recover from this week's elections.

The day after the big defeat, the conservative chatter everywhere was about how the "movement" and the Republican Party (two different things) could finally unshackle themselves from the bad old habits that brought them down, and about how the ability to draw a sharp contrast with the Obama/Pelosi/Reid triumvirate would allow us to focus attention, rally the faithful, and re-storm the castle in 2010 and 2012.

Hamas Hatred

By David Aikman

A Hamas member of the Palestinian Legislature, Fathi Hammad, said recently in a press conference in Gaza that killing a single Jew is the same as killing 30 million Jews. Never mind the faulty arithmetic--there are only 15 million Jews in the world--it is quite incredible that such pure evil can be spouted aloud and nobody complains.

The United States claims to be pursuing a peace agreement between the Palestinian Authority and Israel. Of course, the executive of the Palestinian Authority is not composed of Hamas. But the Palestinian parliament still has Hamas members in it in good standing.

How is it possible to pursue peace with a national entity that allows into its legislature such odious concocters of evil? Was not one Hitler enough?

DEMOCRACY IN DANGER

I received this email from Mark Kelly from Heritage.org. I hope he does not mind my sharing it with the rest of you. It has some terrific links to lotsa' good info.
“Elections decide not only who leads our country, but as a consequence of that vote, the future public policies that will be implemented by our government,” notes Heritage expert and former Federal Election Commissioner Hans von Spakovsky in a Special Report on election fraud. Heritage believes that the right to vote in a fair and free election is a basic civil right, on which depends all of the other rights of the American people protected by the Bill of Rights. Von Spakovsky’s report outlines four case studies involving stolen identities, stolen votes, non-citizen voting and absentee ballot fraud, and notes: “The best way of determining the proper safeguards to ‘deter and detect’ voter fraud that endangers our democratic process is to examine actual reported cases.” It’s an important and timely study, and I hope you will share it widely.

After the Bailout

As some have compared the current crisis to the Great Depression, the Heritage Foundry blog, asks whether the current crisis could usher in the next “New Deal?” The answer, a careful study of the evidence indicates that the government intervention simply prolonged the Great Depression. And, many of the New Deal’s laws were struck down as unconstitutional.

Yet, now we even have state governments indicating they too would like to be “bailed out.” Governor Mark Sanford of South Carolina disagrees. He is calling out irresponsible state spending and calling for more flexibility in spending federal dollars rather than a bailout. He said,

“Essentially, you’d be transferring taxpayer dollars out of the frying pan – the federal government – and into the fire – the states themselves. I think this stimulus would exacerbate the clearly unsustainable spending trends of states, which has gone up 124 percent over the past 10 years versus federal government spending growth of 83 percent…

…State debt across the country has also increased by 95 percent over the past decade. In fact, on average every American citizen is on the hook for $1,200 more in state debt than we were 10 years ago. There seems to be no consequence, and indeed a reward, for unsustainable spending growth by states. In effect, sending $150 billion more to states would produce another layer of moral hazard – already laid bare at the corporate, individual and federal levels in recent years.”

So how did this current crisis happen?

The Congressional Joint Economic Committee issued this report which finds that government economic and monetary policies worldwide inflated the unsustainable housing bubble. Two problems in the U.S. run counter to the narrative some would like to tell. First, it was new rules for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac under the Clinton Administration that encouraged these institutions to buy more and more subprime loans. And, it was new regulations that arose out of legislation to address the collapse of Enron that caused financial institutions to underestimate risk when housing prices were increasing and underestimate value when prices started to fall.

Some have blamed deregulation for this financial crisis. In Meltdowns and Myths, Heritage expert James Gattuso discusses how this is a false narrative in an effort for politicians to assign blame. And, this Wall Street Journal piece today points out that this Age of “Spitzer and Sarbox” could hardly be called deregulation.

In light of the partisan accusations flying around Washington, DC and on the campaign trail, Heritage is calling for an Independent Commission to examine at the causes of the crisis. Heritage outlines five key issues that need to be addressed:

1. Regulatory Roles and Failures
2. Role of GSEs (Fannie and Freddie) and Other Government Incentives
3. Congressional Intervention
4. International Coordination
5. Role and Regulation of Derivatives

And, Heritage offers its own roadmap for stimulating our economy. Rather than returning to the failed policies of the past, Heritage calls on Congress to take a comprehensive approach that will unleash free market forces in tax, spending and energy policy. Not only will this bring help in the short run, but it will put our economy on better footing over the long haul.

A Tipping Point on Entitlements?

Heritage’s Center for Data Analysis just released the 2008 Index of Government Dependency. As baby boomers begin to retire, the Index asks whether or not we have reached the point of no return in the number of people who receive government benefits for which they pay no taxes and whether we will be crushed under the weight of these entitlements? (And, you should keep in mind that this report was compiled before this summer’s Congressional spending spree!)

Thanks for all you are doing to advance freedom. We expect the next few years will be challenging on the policy front here in Washington. I would be interested to hear how things are going in your state as you look toward next Tuesday.

MCCAIN GAINS IN ZOGBY POLL

By DICK MORRIS & EILEEN MCGANN
Published on DickMorris.com on November 3, 2008

It's only a one night poll, but John Zogby reports that his Friday night survey shows McCain leading Obama by 48 to 47. It's only a one night poll (as opposed to the usual three day moving average) but it is 1,000 interviews. It is also over Halloween night! But it is the first poll in three weeks that shows McCain leading. What's up? We think that the advertisement being run by GOPTrust.com is having an effect. It is an ad featuring Rev. Jeremiah Wright decrying America and calling it "the USA of KKK" while Obama sat, deaf-mute in the congregation. By bringing the shocking reality of Rev. Wright back to America's TV screens; GOPTrust.com is performing an important public service. It is just not credible that Obama sat in the congregation for twenty years, asked the Reverend to officiate at his wedding and to baptize his children, titled his book after one of his sermons, and did not know the kind of vile, anti-American hatred he was spewing.

Because of private donations (which they can still receive and usefully spend until Monday morning) GOPTrust.com may have changed the entire election of 2008. Their courageous willingness to face up to what Rev. Wright says and what Obama apparently tolerates may finally be awakening the American people to the danger they face in the Obama candidacy. GOPTrust.com has raised $9 million so far. The amount that they are spending in the last four days on their ad (see it on GOPTrust.com) exceeds the amount being spent on any single McCain ad. It is fundamentally changing this election.

Obama and Life

By David Aikman

Barack Obama has been criticized for his past associations with a former American domestic terrorist, for his earlier membership in a Chicago church whose pastor hated America, and his friendship with a Palestinian college professor who used to work for the PLO.

What may be overlooked in all this is his truly radical support for abortion. In the Illinois State Senate, he voted against a bill that would protect babies who survived botched abortions, and he's promised, if elected president, to sign the Freedom of Choice Act. This would prohibit any state of the union from imposing limits on abortion, for example through a parental consent requirement or through denial of public funds to pay for an abortion.

Is a massive expansion in abortion rights the change that America really wants?

Obamanomics

By Ken Blackwell
Last week’s revelation - in Barack Obama’s own words - that he believes the U.S. Supreme Court should redistribute income to bring about “economic justice” in this country is the final piece of the puzzle that reveals what he believes about the role of government in our lives. Taken with his other statements about wealth, taxes and spending, it reveals a radical-left view of government like this country has never seen.

Obama's vision is far from that of Founding Fathers

By Star Parker
Pushing back on accusations from John McCain that he's a socialist, Barack Obama said, "I don't know what's next. By the end of the week, he'll be accusing me of being a secret Communist because I shared my toys in kindergarten. I shared my peanut butter and jelly sandwich."

Once again, we get the Obama oratorical fog. The problem isn't what he does with his toys or sandwich, it's what he sees as legitimate to do, under authority of government, with mine and yours.

America's Last Will and Testament

By Burt Prelutsky
On the eve of the presidential election, I have a few last thoughts I’d like to share. First off, I keep hearing people say they don’t know Barack Obama. Oddly enough, I don’t think I’ve ever known a presidential candidate nearly so well. I may not have seen his birth certificate or his medical records, but I’ve certainly heard his words, his wife’s words and his pastor’s words, and I feel they’ve told me all I need to know about this demagogue.

I know that he believes in the Marxist principle of sharing the wealth, and I know that doesn’t refer to his own wealth, but to everybody else’s. I know that he shares Mrs. Obama’s lack of pride in America, and that, in his gut, he believes America is a racist nation.

It's Official: NYT is Junk

By Mark Skousen

Friday, the New York Times endorsed Barack Obama for President as "the right choice" to follow the "battered, drifting and failed leadership" of George W. Bush.

That wasn't a surprise. The real news came from another part of town: Yesterday, Standard & Poors slashed the New York Times rating on its $1 billion debt to "junk" status.

UPDATE: Virginia Military Absentee Ballots Must Count

By Connie Hair

Virginia Attorney General Bob McDonnell has issued a formal opinion concluding that federal absentee ballots from overseas military voters lacking the printed name and address of a witness must be counted.

Notice to All Employees

As of November 5, 2008, when President Obama is officially elected into
office, our company will instill a few new policies which are in keeping
with his new, inspiring issues of change and fairness:

1. All salespeople will be pooling their sales and bonuses into a
common pool that will be divided equally between all of you. This will
serve to give those of you who are underachieving a "fair shake."

2. All low level workers will be pooling their wages, including
overtime, into a common pool, dividing it equally amongst yourselves.
This will help those who are "too busy for overtime" to reap the rewards
from those who have more spare time and can work extra hours.

3. All top management will now be referred to as "the government." We
will not participate in this "pooling" experience because the law doesn't
apply to us.

4. The "government" will give eloquent speeches to all employees every
week, encouraging it's workers to continue to work hard "for the good of
all."

5. The employees will be thrilled with these new policies because it's
"good to spread the wealth." Those of you who have underachieved will
finally get an opportunity; those of you who have worked hard and had
success will feel more "patriotic."

6. The last few people who were hired should clean out their desks.
Don't feel bad, though, because President Obama will give you free
healthcare, free handouts, free oil for heating your home, free food
stamps, and he'll let you stay in your home for as long as you want even
if you can't pay your mortgage. If you appeal directly to our democratic
congress, you might even get a free flat screen TV and a coupon for free
haircuts (shouldn't all Americans be entitled to nice looking hair?) !!!

If for any reason you are not happy with the new policies, you may want
to rethink your vote on November 4th.

Obama's Redistribution Plan a Taxing Fantasy

McCain Owns the Kitchen Table

By Charles Krauthammer
WASHINGTON -- Last week I made the open-and-shut case for John McCain: In a dangerous world entering an era of uncontrolled nuclear proliferation, the choice between the most prepared foreign policy candidate in memory vs. a novice with zero experience and the wobbliest one-world instincts is not a close call.

But it's all about economics and kitchen-table issues, we are told. OK. Start with economics.

Neither candidate has particularly deep economic...............

"I acknowledge, in the ordinary course of government, that the exposition of the laws and Constitution devolves upon the judicial. But I beg to know upon what principle it can be contended that any one department draws from the Constitution greater powers than another in marking out the limits of the powers of the several departments."

-- James Madison --

“We’ve gone astray from first principles. We’ve lost sight of the rule that individual freedom and ingenuity are at the very core of everything that we’ve accomplished. Government’s first duty is to protect the people, not run their lives.”

—Ronald Reagan

The Audacity of Deception

Mark Alexander writes:

"Obama bought 30 minutes of prime time on several networks to air an infomercial in which he endeavored to pass as something other than the ideological Socialist he is. Feigning the fiscal conservatism of Ronald Reagan, Obama claimed he would review the budget, line by line, and cut waste. He even made taxing and spending, a.k.a. “the collectivist redistribution of wealth,” sound like a noble democratic gesture.

At one point he said, “Just because I want to spread the wealth around, they call me a socialist. The next thing you know, they will call me a communist because I shared my peanut butter sandwich in kindergarten!”

Cute. Of course, Barack Obama isn’t proposing to “share” his sandwich. Instead, he’s proposing to take your sandwich and share it with someone else. He’s assuming that you aren’t charitable enough to share it yourself.

Truth is, it is unlikely Obama ever shared a sandwich with anyone. With an average annual income of more than $500,000 between 2000 and 2006, Barack and Michelle only gave two percent—two percent—of their income to charity. Obama’s running mate is even more miserly. The Bidens’ income averaged $260,000 over the last 10 years, but they averaged just $650 a year in charitable giving.

So much for “spreading the wealth around.”

Meanwhile, Sen. John McCain centered his soapbox message on Obama’s penchant to redistribute wealth, even uttering the word “socialist” in several interviews—and not a minute too soon.

Of course, Socialist policies are now the centerpiece of the once great Democratic Party, packaged under the aegis of “fairness and equality” or “investments in our infrastructure and people.”

Obama uses code words such as “political and economic justice” and “coalition of powers through which you bring about redistributive change.” In the last two months, however, given the crisis of confidence in our economy, Obama’s Socialist rhetoric has become bolder. Perhaps he’s heeding the counsel of his mentors’ mentor, Karl Marx, who wrote, “A new revolution is possible only in consequence of a new crisis.”

The fingerprints of Obama’s radical Socialist mentors are all over his “vision for America” —from his early childhood tutor, Communist Party USA member Frank Marshall Davis, to his black radical spiritual advisor, Jeremiah Wright, to the benefactors who launched his political career, radical terrorists William Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn.

These are the Leftists who fed Obama’s unmitigated narcissism and shaped his warped worldview, which he now seeks to inflict upon the entire nation. Even his campaign icon implies “Obama over America.”

Of course, when asked about his relationship with these radicals, Obama responds, “[These people] are not advisors or donors to my campaign,” at which point an adoring press corps dutifully moves on to the next question.

Despite having spent 20 years as a disciple of Wright, the man who officiated at Obama’s marriage and baptized his children, the man whom Obama describes as “a father figure,” he claims he never inhaled any of his spiritual mentor’s racial hatred—never even heard any of it.

Obama claims that Bill Ayers was “just a guy in my neighborhood,” and “I was just eight years old when he was a terrorist.” However, Obama was 34 when Ayers used his radical celebrity to launch Obama’s political career, and he was 40 when this unrepentant terrorist was featured in a New York Times article (on the morning of September 11, 2001) and quoted in the opening paragraph proclaiming, “I don’t regret setting bombs. I feel we didn’t do enough.”

Ayers added, “America makes me want to puke.” Obama was working on his second major “philanthropic” project with Ayers at that time.

In addition, there are Obama’s ties to the Socialist New Party, the ACORN crowd, Father Michael Pfleger, Khalid al-Mansour, Kwame Kilpatrick, Louis Farrakhan, Tony Rezko, Rashid Khalidi, Raila Odinga and other haters, hard Leftists and convicted felons.

George Bernard Shaw once wrote, “A government which robs Peter to pay Paul can always depend on the support of Paul.” All committed Socialists understand this principle.

For example, when Obama asserts, “We’ll ensure that economic justice is served—that’s what this election is about... I think when you spread the wealth around, it’s good for everybody,” that is tantamount to buying votes.

Michelle Obama echoes her husband’s redistributionist philosophy: “The truth is, in order to get things like universal healthcare and a revamped education system, then someone is going to have to give up a piece of their pie so that someone else can have more.”

In 1916, a minister and outspoken advocate for liberty, William J. H. Boetcker, published a pamphlet entitled The Ten Cannots . “You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot help the poor man by destroying the rich. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred. You cannot build character and courage by taking away man’s initiative and independence. You cannot help small men by tearing down big men. You cannot lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer. You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than your income. You cannot establish security on borrowed money. You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they will not do for themselves.”

A century later, Democrats are utterly ignorant of these principles. In fact, Barack Obama’s campaign is built around their antithesis—“The Ten Cans.”

I was speaking with a friend recently, a man who lived most of his life under the Communist regime in the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic. He has spent several years and continues to incur many legal expenses in his endeavor to become a U.S. citizen, but he has since lost his enthusiasm.

“The prospect of an Obama presidency is like dèja vu for me,” he explained. “The socialist goal back home was that everyone had equal wealth. They met that goal—eventually no one had anything. Any attempt to work harder to achieve a better standard of living for your family was considered contrary to the welfare of the state, and dutifully discouraged. Socialism is a big hole, easy to fall into and hard to climb out of.”

He lamented, “The American dream is not something I want to wake up from—but too many Americans have no idea what they have, and are about to lose it. Socialism seems an appealing ideal, collective ownership, equal society, ‘sharing the wealth,’ et cetera. But it has a downside: It doesn’t work.”

Indeed it doesn’t work. It creates wards of the state—slaves, if you will.

In the 1980s, I spent enough time in Socialist countries, including the old USSR, to know that we want to avoid, at all costs, a USSA. If we could gather up all Americans who, knowingly or unknowingly, support collectivist policies like those espoused by Barack Obama and transport them to the old USSR for a week, they could see the terminus of such policies—the walking dead—and the wisest among them would rethink their support for statist concepts such as “sharing the wealth.”

It is no small irony that as the younger generations of former Communist countries around the world are moving rapidly toward liberty and free enterprise, our nation is moving rapidly toward Socialism and a tyranny of the few.

Barack Obama recently said, “I don’t find myself particularly scary or particularly risky.” It was a weak attempt at self-effacing humor, but make no mistake: Barack Hussein Obama’s Socialist policies are both scary and risky.

“Hope” and “change” may be pleasant catchall bromides, but as Benjamin Franklin wrote in Poor Richard’s Almanac, “He that lives upon Hope will die fasting.”

On change, John Adams wrote, “A Constitution of Government once changed from Freedom, can never be restored. Liberty, once lost, is lost forever.”

To that end, in 1787, the year our Constitution was adopted, Thomas Jefferson, wrote, “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure.”

Let’s not go there—yet."

MCCAIN SURGES AMONG YOUNG VOTERS

By DICK MORRIS & EILEEN MCGANN
A massive shift in younger and older voters is roiling the presidential race according to new data from the Fox News/Opinion Dynamics Poll concluded October 28-29. Younger voters -- under 45 -- once Obama's base, now are evenly divided between the two candidates. But voters over 65 have shifted sharply to the Democrat in the past week.

Voters under 45 supported Obama by 52-38 in the Fox News poll of October 21-22. But this week's survey indicates that they now break evenly with 45% supporting Obama and 46% backing McCain. On the other hand, ..........

THE DEMOCRATS' PLAN

Mr. Obama's Wealth Redistribution Agenda
Democrats Target Your 401k Retirement Plan with Taxes

"The public outcry of real Americans like you and Joe the Plumber is finally getting some light shed on Mr. Obama's wealth redistribution agenda supported by Socialist Democrats in Congress. The corrupt media can't hide it any longer. The plan is to bring an end to the America we know and love; to bring an end to freedom and liberty.

They want total control of what you see, hear, think, and do. They will stop at nothing. NOW, they are aiming at your 401k retirement plan and they are going for the kill.

Yes that's right, Liberals in government want to seize these assets for their own. Just look at what James Pethokoukis, the money and politics blogger for U.S. News & World Report has said,
In place of 401(k) plans, she would have workers transfer their dough into government-created "guaranteed retirement accounts" for every worker. The government would deposit $600 (inflation indexed) every year into the GRAs. Each worker would also have to save 5 percent of pay into the accounts, to which the government would pay a measly 3 percent return. Rep. Jim McDermott, a Democrat from Washington and chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee's Subcommittee on Income Security and Family Support, said that since "the savings rate isn't going up for the investment of $80 billion [in 401(k) tax breaks], we have to start to think about whether or not we want to continue to invest that $80 billion for a policy that's not generating what we now say it should."

Straight from the jackasses mouth, the Democratic plan is to SIEZE your 401k and take $80 billion that is currently the property of American citizens. Effectively, this plan will end all of the incentives that the majority of Americans not only enjoy but rely on. I am sure you or someone you know takes advantage of their employer matching their 401k contribution. Under the iron fist of the Democratic empire your employer would no longer receive a tax benefit for matching your contribution, so they won't do it. And you will lose half of your retirement contributions. And don't forget, that you will lose your tax breaks from the 401k plan also, so you'd be paying the government to let you retire. Sounds like fun?

Don't let the tyrannical rule of socialists take hold, put a stop to the unholy trinity of the Democrat controlled Senate and House and potential president Obama. Do not let Barrack Obama bring an end to this great country!"1
